Archive Tutorials: How To Contribute To The Archive & How To Navigate The Archive Items

There are a few ways to go about contributing to the archive. The archive director is here to make it as simple as possible for anyone who’s interested. It’s best to review all of the written instruction below and watch the How to Contribute to the NYC Yoga Studios Archive Video tutorial, before proceeding. If you are confused or prefer not to meddle with technology, you are most welcome to email the director and request support at nycyogastudiosarchive@gmail.com.

How to Contribute to the NYC Yoga Studios Archive via Direct contribution

How to Contribute

1. Fill out the consent form. If you do not fill this out, your submission will be omitted. This is extremely important as everyone needs to understand the longevity and public visibility of their contribution.

2. Decide what you wish to share with the archive.
The purpose of the archive is to preserve the history of NYC Yoga and especially COVID-19’s impact on its workers, space and yoga pedagogy. However, the archive is open to submissions of all kinds of yoga histories, yoga facts and artifacts about yoga in NYC. Note that this form also includes the chance to upload digital files, which can be extremely beneficial at illustrating the story that you are telling. Please take a moment and reflect that your story is fully shared in the best way possible.

Helpful Hints: Contributing to the archive could be as simple as providing a sound recording of your own reflections or a written response to our interview questions here. As long as you own the rights to the story, you’re welcome to share it. Some folks are setting up virtual calls with the director of the archive and offering oral histories, which involves no technical skill on the interviewees behalf outside of connecting to a Zoom call.

3. Decide the format that you’d prefer your contribution to be in. If you have any questions about the format outside of what’s listed below, please reach out directly.

  • Written reflections are expected to be digitized and in .pdf or .doc, or .txt format
  • Audio recordings should be in .mp3
  • Video should be in .mov or .mp4
  • Photos should be in .jpeg or .png

4Just Do It! Submit your item accordingly. There are a few ways to do this it’s not a one size fits all for everyone.

  • For pre-written interview questions by google form, you are all done once you click submit on the form. No need to do anything else.
  • You may click contribute an item on the left side of The archive’s main website. That is what the video tutorial aims to assist with.
  • You may also email your submission directly to nycyogastudiosarchive@gmail.com.
