QR Code Exhibition – NYC Yoga Studios Archive, Summer 2023

📲If you see me, scan me. The QR Code that represents the NYC Yoga Studios Archive is on exhibition this summer!

🔸The NYCYSA QR Code sticker that contains the archive’s logo is posted near or around known yoga sites within the NYC metropolitan area. The item number on the image is associated with the Omeka gallery of yoga studios. The goal of the sticker campaign is to connect people with more local yoga studios and to raise awareness around the rapid real estate turnover that the NYC yoga community has demonstrated in the last three years (2020-2023).

🔸According to my research, the lower Manhattan neighborhood of TriBeCa had 10 yoga studios at the start of 2020; 8 of them closed forever between 2020-2021. After indoor group fitness restrictions subsided in mid-2021, 3 out of those original 10 re-opened and only one opened for new business. As a result, TriBeCa is home to 4 studios, which is a 60% difference in comparison to January 2020.

🔸Want to learn more statistics about the NYC yoga community? Scan the QR code for a map with over 250+ yoga sites, 25 human stories and 100+ photos of yoga studios in NYC that existed between January 2020-July 2023.

🔸What will you remember about the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the yoga community during 2020? Want to learn more? Leave a comment or email nycyogastudiosarchive@gmail.com.
